The Huni Story:
Resilience, Craftsmanship, and Revival

A Dream Born from Tradition

Founded in 2012, In the lush landscapes of Cebu, Philippines, a dream took root among the skilled hands of multi-generational luthiers.

Led by Brian Brusas, HUNI Bamboo Ukuleles was born out of a passion for music and a reverence for craftsmanship handed down through generations. This was more than a business; it was a calling—to create instruments that resonated with the soul of the artisan and the voice of the bamboo.

Choosing Sustainable Bamboo

Choosing bamboo as our primary material wasn't just an aesthetic decision—it was a commitment to sustainability.

Bamboo, with its rapid growth and environmental benefits, offered a path to creating beautiful, resonant ukuleles while caring for the planet. Brian envisioned a line of ukuleles that were not only musical instruments but also symbols of ecological harmony.

Triumph and Tragedy, a Dream Destroyed by the Pandemic

HUNI prospered from 2011-2020, carving a niche in a world dominated by mass-produced instruments.

Each ukulele was a piece of art, imbued with the spirit of the Philippines.

However, the unexpected struck—COVID-19. Exporting non-essential goods from the Philippines was restricted, and Huni’s buyers in Hawaii could no longer purchase Ukuleles.

The music stopped, the workshops closed, and dreams were deferred.

Multi-generational luthiers reverted to driving taxi’s to make it through these tough times…

A Dream Never Dies…

But heroes rise amid adversity. Brian, witnessing the collapse of his life's work, was not ready to let go.

The pandemic was a setback, but not the end.

With resilience at his core and a deep-seated desire to revive his community's livelihood, Brian set out to breathe new life into HUNI. It was time for a comeback.

After 4 years of shutting down production, Brian found a new partner to help distribute and sell Huni Ukulele’s in the USA. Alongside the entrepreneur, Jake Jorgovan, Huni has started it’s comeback.

Revival and Hope

Today, HUNI is more than just a business—it's a beacon of hope for these Filipino craftsman.

Reopening the doors, bringing back skilled artisans, and reintroducing the world to the beauty of handcrafted bamboo ukuleles, Brian is leading a revival.

Each purchase now supports not only a tradition of craftsmanship but also a community’s fight for survival and dignity.
